Demigoddess is my MFA Thesis project, though it stemmed from a personal project started before school, which was called Fairy God Feminist. The project consisted of a script, character designs and visual development, one completed chapter in the form of a comic and other accompanying products and accessories. The culmination of the project was the Thesis Exhibition which was held at Maryland Institute College of Art. The installation exhibition depicted one of the scenes from the comic excerpt and displayed the character designs as posters. All of the 2-D work was printed on a risograph printer.

I’ve worked on several personal comic projects that have evolved over time, or were just for personal drawing time. The main project I have been working on started out as Fairy God Feminist and has since become Demigoddess. You can see how the project has changed on my tumblr.

I have also initiated some small zine anthologies including: Ladylike, Book of Mormon Zine Vol. 1 & 2.

I was a part of a kickstarter project with Jake Parker, Mike Laughead and many other artists. We were each invited to make a story about our experience as full time missionaries. The anthology is called Served.

Dig Inn is a popular restaurant chain in the New York City area which specializes in fast and healthy food. Ali Francis, a journalist and creative director created a website with Dig Inn called Dirt. of which, I was able to illustrate several of their food related articles.

Over the last few years my friends have requested Christmas cards and Valentines. These designs are from 2020 and 2021.

These images were created for Mighty Kind Kids Magazine, The House that Lars Built and some personal work for Nomi Wear and my favorite places to visit in NYC!

I have always been drawn to… (this may or may not be an intentional pun) products, especially whimsical, fantastical illustrative products. These images are a variety of personal projects and a few commissioned labels for the House that Lars Built Valentines 2021 collection.

In 2015 I worked on the Visual Team for Anthropologie’s flagship store at Rockefeller center as a Visual Sales Associate. I was able to contribute to several details of the project and learned how to utilize unlikely resources such as newspaper and tape to create hundreds of oranges and plums for the displays. I was also able to use my illustration skills to provide detailing, including the tin background and sled. Also, please enjoy the photos of me explaining the windows to my mom.

I worked as an intern and as a freelancer for the design studio, The House that Lars Built. I was usually given a prompt or theme and then created multiple options to then bring to sketch and final. You can see the projects on the Lars website here:

Illustrator Feature

Nomi was a collaborative project with my friend Michon Christensen. We developed a small fashion line of athleisure street wear with bold and graphic patterns. We collaborated on the designs, I designed the textile patterns and branding and Michon sewed the pieces together and helped with styling. Our pieces were acknowledged by Elle UK Magazine and House of Coco Magazine. You can see our social media account: @nomiwear

I have enjoyed utilizing motion in my illustrations for personal use. I also have done some animations and promotional videos for clients which can be viewed on my behance page.

2019

MICA Grad Show: A collective show of the Illustration Practice cohort. My project consisted of a script, character designs and visual development, one completed chapter in the form of a comic and other accompanying products and accessories. Image Harvest: A collective show of the Illustration Practice cohort. My piece exhibited an illustrated 3D sculpture featuring my nieces in a magical world.

2017

Image Harvest: A collective show of the Illustration Practice cohort. My piece exhibited an illustrated 3D sculpture of a dollhouse that also acted as self portrait.

2014

Our Sister's Sorrow: A series of paintings created for a local fundraising event for the local women's shelter, The Center For Women and Children in Crisis. The images are based on the narrative of the story of Job from the Hebrew Bible replaced with female characters.

2012

Crayonbox Quip: A series of paintings based off of childhood memories and elementary school assignments my parents had kept. Self directed with art direction by Bob Barrett.

The title of my BFA thesis project was Our Sister’s Sorrow. I illustrated the Book of Job from the Hebrew Bible with the main character being a woman to show the female perspective of loss, suffering and redemption. As a part of the project I partnered with Zane Harker, a composing major, on a grant from BYU’s Laycock Center Grant. We created a multi-sensory event that included visual paintings, Zane’s original avant garde compositions and invited speakers to talk on the themes of women’s issues in the Provo, Utah community. The proceeds from the evening were donated to the Center for Women and Children in Crisis.
